The charging cable shell mainly consists of three materials: TPE, PCV, and woven nylon, among which TPE material is the most commonly used.
TPE material Charging line
TPE material is a soft adhesive material that can be processed and formed by ordinary thermoplastic molding machines, and its elasticity and toughness have been greatly improved compared to PVC material. TPE material is non flammable and has stable resistance to weather changes, but it cannot be bent. It may burst or break after prolonged use. The most important thing is that it is more environmentally friendly, and many original phone charging cables are mostly made of TPE material.
PVC material Charging line
PVC material has non flammability, high strength, weather resistance, and excellent geometric stability. But with the emergence of TPE materials with better performance, PVC charging cables have gradually been replaced.
Woven nylon material Charging line
The bending resistance and durability are naturally higher than those of PVC and TPE materials, with good aesthetic and external tensile strength; There is no threading phenomenon, it is soft and flexible, with good elasticity, and it is not easy to tangle or crease; Excellent durability, not easily deformed, sturdy and durable. But the biggest drawback is that it cannot be close to the ignition source, and the price is also relatively expensive. It is less environmentally friendly and skin friendly than TPE, making it more mainstream on non original charging lines.
Among the three materials mentioned above, TPE material accounts for the largest proportion of charging cables. In addition to meeting the requirements for charging cable jackets, TPE material itself is a non-toxic and environmentally friendly elastic material that is easy to recycle. With the increasing emphasis on green, low-carbon and sustainable development, it can reduce environmental pollution and make it more popular among manufacturers.
In the mobile phone industry, many manufacturers will also invest more in green and environmentally friendly materials. In 2022, mobile phone giant Apple stated that in 2021, nearly 20% of all materials used in Apple products (including accessories) were recycled materials, and the utilization rate of renewable materials reached a new high.
Among these products, charging cables made of PCR TPE materials are included. There are many factors that Apple values the use of recycled materials, such as increasing consumer environmental awareness and policy and regulatory guidance. However, the most important reason is that existing recycled materials can compete with new materials, even exceed their performance, and are lower in carbon and more environmentally friendly than new materials. Taken together, the application of PCR TPE in charging lines is not surprising.
