Generally speaking, the service life of polycarbonate (PC) materials is over 50 years, but in practical applications, many PC products are retired early. Therefore, establishing a full chain green system from raw materials to recycling is one of the important paths for the current green transformation of the PC industry and embracing the "dual carbon" era. Recently, during an interview with Ma Yiming, founder and CEO of Ningbo Jianfeng New Materials Co., Ltd., it was learned that with their efforts, discarded PC water buckets can be transformed into cultural and creative products as well as daily necessities
Ma Yiming said that taking domestic bucket faucet enterprise Wahaha Group as an example, about millions of PC buckets are retired every year. These water buckets are made of food grade PC material. If they are directly buried or burned after retirement, it will not only cause resource waste, but may also release environmental pollutants. Traditional recycling methods are difficult to achieve high-value utilization due to technological limitations. To this end, Ningbo Jianfeng has developed a "infinite circulation" development model with its material recycling technology as the core, revitalizing these retired PC water buckets.
According to Ma Yiming, this technology has the following highlights. One is the integration of standardized and efficient recycling intelligent system for waste water buckets, ultra pure processing technology, big data and material algorithms, and solution filtration technology, which can solve the technical difficulties of harmful substances such as impurities and foreign objects on product performance, quality stability, and environmental risks; Second, it has the technology of waste bucket high-value product grading, pyramid ladder structure design and formula algorithm upgrading, which can solve the technical difficulties of recycling, anti-aging, molecular chain breaking and functional instability; Thirdly, it has an intelligent automated low-carbon demonstration production line for waste water buckets and a fully closed-loop recycling and traceability technology for the industrial chain, which can solve the development difficulties of insufficient recycling equipment and technology, poor traceability, and low industrial efficiency.
On this basis, discarded PC water buckets can be "recycled" into different grades of PC materials with low temperature resistance, strength and toughness, high impact resistance, high transparency, UV resistance, and other properties. At present, Ningbo Jianfeng has successfully produced backpacks, suitcases, goggles, swimming goggles, goggles, safety helmets, electronic product casings, water bottles, etc. It is worth mentioning that from water buckets to cups, PC materials still maintain food grade standards and can achieve high-value utilization. Through recycling and regeneration technology, deep cleaning and sorting, ultra clean filtration technology, and low molecular weight removal process, the regenerated PC material meets the FDA 21 CFR 177.1580 standard (food grade PCR PC material, brand name: PC-FT315, PCR content 100%, product carbon emissions reduced by 92.3%), and has the technical requirements and quality safety assurance for molding and processing designated food grade container products. ”
